ESB Confirm's Closure....

This will reduce the market dominance of the ESB by about a half following an agreement with the energy regulator, and will open the door for a new development in Co Cork. The power plants ears marked for closure are Poolbeg in Dublin, Great Island in Wexford, also Tarbert in Kerry.

These closures also meet the terms set out by the CER (Commission for Energy Regulation) and the Minister for Energy as part of ESB's authorisation to construct a new 430MW station in Co Cork.

When all plants are shut down the ESB's will have reduced its share of the Single Energy Market to circa 27% by 2010 (ESB Power Generation's market share in the Irish market currently stands at 44% by production).
